Hello World, It's Nice to Meet You (Again)

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

Whatever you thought you knew about me, forget it. Just kidding (kinda). I am Nikki Murphy, author, poet, real estate investor, Diversity & Inclusion Strategist. Here are 5 fast facts about me and why you might want to stick around:

  1. Nikki is my nickname but it is more like my real name because it's the only name my mother has ever called me. I wore another name to school and work. However, I wanted to be intentional about writing creatively in my most authentic voice, which is why I took the pen name "Nikki Murphy."

  2. I am married and have a 4-year-old son who you will occasionally see on my Instagram because he is a total show-stealer. In fact, after the proofs of my book, Home for Hurricanes: A Memoir of Resilience in Poetry and Prose, came in the mail, he decided he wanted to write his own book. He did so in one sitting, got it "published" at Staples, and might have sold more copies than me. He is my greatest teacher.

  3. I left my job as a Corporate Vice President in Diversity & Inclusion for a Fortune 100 company (#inthemiddleofapandemic) to set out on this undefined quest to expand my impact. God and I are still working out the details (though I think He's much further along than I). And guess what? You've got exit row seats (pun intended)! In the event of an emergency, would you be willing to assist?

  4. I am an introvert that enjoys public speaking. Like how, right? I know but it's true. I get so much energy from speaking to audiences, but still need ample time to recover.

  5. This is my third blog. In my mid-twenties, I started two blogs as creative outlets to counter the underwhelming career I had consulting broker-dealers in enhancing their operational controls (one blog just couldn't cut it). One blog was about personal finance and the other was a comical exploration of my life as a twenty-something-year-old Black professional millennial in NYC.

As it turns out, these weren't as fast as I thought they'd be but alas, here we are at the end. Did you learn anything new?

Talk soon, friends.
